Swim Swim (スイムスイム), also known by her real name Ayana Sakanagi (坂凪綾名), is one of the main characters of Magical Girl Raising Project.

Swim Swim is a quiet Magical Girl. She is allied with and extremely loyal to Ruler.

Spoiler(s) Below!
In Unmarked (Arc 1), she becomes a secondary antagonist after betraying Ruler, leading to her death. She then becomes the leader of Team Ruler, devising numerous plans to keep herself as well as the remaining members from dropping out.

Human

As a human, Ayana Sakanagi is a little girl with short brown hair tied into two twin tails and brown eyes. She wears a classic Japanese elementary school uniform.

Magical Girl

As a Magical Girl, Swim Swim has long, wavy, light pink hair with short straight bangs. The strands of hair that frame her cheeks are in tight curls. She wears large, headphone-like disks on both sides of her head that are black with a magenta pink center fading to purple. There is also a black bunny head silhouette in the center with 2 four lines beneath it at the sides. Her eyes are purple fading to magenta pink. In the manga adaptation, she has eye shines that are shaped like a bunny head. She lacks any makeup.

She wears a very generic white school swimsuit with a pair of goggles wrapped around her neck. The goggle's straps are black with the goggle lens being pink and the eye seal being grey (blue in the anime). The goggles also have two strap buckles that are white and shaped like a rabbit. Her nails are magenta pink fading to purple.

She wears a very generic white swimsuit that sort of resembles a vest, and white pants with pink goggles around her neck. The goggles have a black outline, with white bunny decorations upside down. On her back, she has small, black devil wings. She wears elbow-length fingerless black gloves and a white, ruffled garter around her left thigh. The garter also has ha black pattern in the center that is designed like a heart-shaped chain.

Floating around her hips are four black disks with a magenta pink center fading to purple, with a black bunny head silhouette in the center. Attached to the bottom of the disks are long, black strands with pointed, silver tops. These strands resemble a devil's tail. She has chunky boots on that are black with 4 dark pink shoelaces. The bottom and top of the boots are a violet color with the front of her soles being split up.

Personality

Swim Swim is a girl of few words. She admires those in power to the point of emulating her teacher. She tends not to display her emotions outwardly, and is extremely smart for her age, as she was able to manipulate Ruler into a situation where the latter would die.

Swim Swim is very literal-minded and takes the words of those in authority as law. She memorizes all of Ruler's teachings and makes them her way of life, regardless of the content of them. She believes that she has to follow Ruler's (and, to a lesser extent, Nemurin's) teachings, to the point where she kills Ruler to 'become like her'. Every action Swim Swim takes is an attempt to obey Ruler's words.

Magic

Can pass through any object like it's water.

She is able to "swim" through solid objects. During this process, objects will pass through her, and she won't be affected. It allows her to move between substances or invalidate attacks from any materials. However, waves such as light and sound will still affect her.

Special Item(s)

• Rabbits-Attached Goggles: Swim Swim's goggles.
• Ruler (Former): A magical item. Similar to a halberd, it's a weapon with a blade length of 30 centimeters and a handle the length of 1 meter. It will not be broken easily even when it's used by magical girls. Swim Swim named it "Ruler".
• Healing Medicine (Former): A magical medicine. It strengthens the ability of those who take it.
• Invisibility Cloak (Former): A magical cloak that can erase one's appearance and smell, however sound and heartbeat cannot be erased. After purchasing it, Swim Swim gave it to Tama.

Relationships

Ruler

Swim Swim is a member of Ruler's team with Ruler as her mentor. Ruler considers Swim Swim to be the most competent of the team.

Swim Swim greatly idolized her and would follow every order that she gives without hesitation, with no exceptions. Swim Swim always think about something related to Ruler, even after her death. She becomes the new leader of the Team and names her weapon after her and always asks herself what would Ruler do in any situation.

Yunael

Yunael and Swim Swim are both students of Ruler. They work together on numerous occasions, such as when they betray Ruler and attack Weiss Winterprison.

Swim Swim is upset when Yunael ends up dying during the attack on Winterprison, considering it a mistake on her part as a leader and reflecting that Ruler would have done better.

Minael

Minael and Swim Swim are both students of Ruler. They work together on numerous occasions, such as when they betray Ruler and attack Hardgore Alice

Swim Swim is alerted to Minael's location after feeling the ground shake, and quickly identifies her body by noticing her looking identical to Yunael. Instead of grieving, Swim Swim focuses on attacking Cranberry.

Tama

Tama and Swim Swim are both students of Ruler. Swim Swim cares deeply for Tama, considering her a companion and thinking she is cute whenever her ears and tail drooped.

Swim Swim was extremely regretful about having to kill Tama, crying after doing so.

Nemurin

During Nemurin's Adventure, Nemurin enters Swim Swim's dream, where the latter is shown admiring Ruler and wanting to be like her someday.

Ideal Ruler

Ideal Ruler is Swim Swim's version of Ruler.

Top Speed

In Let's Play With Top Speed, she asks Top Speed for a ride. During the ride, Top Speed tries to start a conversation with Swim Swim about things like how is she doing in school, to which Swim Swim answers shortly, showing no interest whatsoever. Top Speed offers Swim Swim her friendship.

Swim Swim would later be the one who ends up taking Top Speed's life.

Ripple

Ripple tried to fight her after Swim Swim killed Top Speed. They later have another fight in which Ripple ends up killing her, but losing an eye and arm in the process.

Snow White

After Nemurin's drop out, Swim Swim works together with Ruler to steal magical candy from Snow White. While Ruler used her magic to keep Snow White still, Swim Swim was the one who transferred over the candy.

Swim Swim would steal a total of 37,000 candies from her. She would later distribute these candies between the rest of the magical girls in the game, minus Snow White, Ruler, and La Pucelle.

Sister Nana

Swim Swim agrees to meet with Sister Nana, planning to user the meet-up as a way to attack Weiss Winterprison.

Weiss Winterprison

Swim Swim and the rest of Team Ruler formulate a plan in order to attack Weiss Winterprison during a meeting between the Team and Sister Nana. Swim Swim believes that if she can defeat Winterprison, she can defeat Calamity Mary, someone who Ruler was afraid of.

After Weiss ends up killing Yunael, Swim Swim ultimately kills her after slicing off her arm. The fact that Weiss was able to kill Yunael is something that ends up upsetting Swim Swim.

Hardgore Alice

Thanks to Minael's magic, Swim Swim manages to find Hardgore Alice's house and plots how to kill her. She decides to kill her while she was going to school in her human form. When Hardgore Alice discovered her, she starts to run in fear and searches for a safe space to transform, in which she fails and dies shortly after Swim Swim's attack in Snow White's arms.

Musician Of The Forest, Cranberry

Swim Swim and the rest of Team Ruler go to kill Cranberry due to her being strong. Swim Swim does not underestimate Cranberry, despite their numbers, going as far as to provide all of the remaining Team Ruler members with an energy pill. When initially negotiating a meetup, Swim Swim considered Cranberry and her tone to be flippant.

After Minael's death, Swim Swim would attack Cranberry alongside Tama, but would be greatly wounded after Cranberry attacks her via sound. Swim Swim is nearly killed, being saved by both Cranberry's hesitance due to her age as well as Tama's surprise attack.

Fav

After killing Tama, who had killed Cranberry, Swim Swim becomes Fav's new master. Much to his annoyance, however, she has no interest in working together with him. This leads to him telling Ripple about her weaknesses.

Calamity Mary

Swim Swim seems intimidated by Calamity Mary, aware that Ruler was afraid of her. When Calamity Mary causes casualty at a bridge, Swim Swim chooses to attack the magical girls who go to stop her instead of attacking Calamity Mary herself.

Sonia Bean

In The Two Monsters Final Battle in the Dream City, they meet but have communication problems. She and Sonia Bean fight with their respective ideal Magical Girls.

Interviewer

During the events of An Interview with Swim Swim, Swim Swim is interviewed by this person from the Magical Kingdom.

Etymology

Real Name

The surname Sakanagi is homophone with “fish-like nature” (魚気), Ayana is homophone with “to maneuver/manipulate skillfully” (操す). Her name thus can be understood as “to operate skillfully like fish.”

• The name Ayana means "twill, design" (綾) (aya) and "name, noted, distinguished, reputation" (名) (na).
• Ayana's surname Sakanagi means "slope, hill" (坂) (saka) and "calm, lull" (凪) (nagi).
