An advertisement for the free-to-play mobile game Magical Girl Raising Project, where you play as a Magical Girl of your own design.
Prologue[]
Prologue (プロローグ)
At night, a young girl, Ako Hatoda, arrives at her front door when she realizes she lost her house key. Believing herself an inconvenience to others, she contemplates suicide when a girl in white appears and helps find her key before disappearing again. Realizing that person was a Magical Girl, Ako suddenly does not feel like dying anymore and instead wonders if she too could become like her: someone who helps others.
Chapter 1[]
Black & White (ブラック&ホワイト)
On a bus in N-City, Koyuki Himekawa and her friends, Sumire and Yoshiko Yoshinoura, discuss a new Magical Girl sighting: a gunslingster raiding a gangster group's apartment. This causes Sumire and Yoshiko argue over whether Magical Girls really exist.

That night, the Magical Girl Ripple inquires the Mascot Fav about the sighting, but the latter dodges the question. Her partner, the eccentric Top Speed, then arrives, further souring her mood. Ripple reflects on how she first begame a Magical Girl: to relieve stress from living on her own to get away from her polyamorous mother, she played the Magical Girl Raising Project mobile game, not believing the rumors of it turning people into real Magical Girls, only for that exact thing to happen to her. Afterward, she was to be mentored by the gunslingster, Calamity Mary, but Top Speed had Ripple transferred to her, prompting Mary to confront them. Though Top Speed appeased her, Mary and Ripple were left with a mutual dislike of each other.

Snow White and La Pucelle
Elsewhere, the Koyuki meets up with the Magical Girl La Pucelle and they discuss the N-City Magical Girls' upcoming chat meeting. Unbeknownst to Sumire and Yoshiko, Koyuki is actually the Magical Girl Snow White. Being a Magical Girl fan, she quickly got addicted to Magical Girl Raising Project, and Fav eventually approached her and turned her into her character. Afterward, she was taught the rules of being a Magical Girl: they receive points called Magical Candies for doing community service and each possesses a magical ability, in her case "hearing those in need". After some time, La Pucelle was assigned to be her mentor and Snow White was shocked to learn the former is actually her childhood friend Souta Kishibe, who is one of rare male Magical Girls.
However, during the chat, Fav claims there are too many Magical Girls and he has to cut the number down to eight; the one with the fewest candies will lose their Magical Girl identity. From the following week, the magical girl sightings increased and during the next chatroom Fav announces the first Magical Girl to be cut: the constantly lethargic Nemurin. After everyone else logs off, however, one Magical Girl, Cranberry, asks Fav what being cut entails and the mascot replies that it means death.
Chapter 2[]
The Princess and her Four Followers (お姫様と四人のおとも)

Top Speed meets with Nana and Winterprison
The other Magical Girls quickly learn of Nemurin's death by watching the chat recordings. While Top Speed grieves for Nemurin, Ripple is only concerned about her own her survival. To bring an end to the death game, Top Speed brings Ripple with her to meet two other Magical Girls, Sister Nana and Weiss Winterprison, who have been trying to contact Magical Girl Raising Project's developers about the situation. However, Nana's mourning over Nemurin reminds Ripple of her mother, prompting her to aggressively push her away and causing tensions with Winterprison. Fortunately, Top Speed, is able to calm the situation before quickly escorting Ripple away.

Elsewhere, a group of Magical Girls discuss their survival options. With Fav having added a "Candy Transfer" option to everyone's Magical Phones, their leader, Ruler, plots to steal points from the top scorer, Snow White. She also wants to give her forcefully gathered subordinates, Swim Swim, Tama, Minael, and Yunael, battle experience for her end goal: defeat Mary, her abusive former mentor. Confronting Snow White and La Pucelle, things initially go to plan: Tama, Minael, and Yunael distract Lu Pucelle while Ruler immobilizes Snow White with her magic, to "command those she points her sceptre at", allowing Swim Swim to steal her candies. However, the operation nearly fails when Lu Pucelle sees through the scheme. Afterward, despite achieving their objective, Ruler berates her team over the near-failure and keeps most of the candies for herself.

However, Ruler is immediately caught off-guard when Fav announces the second cut: herself. It is revealed Swim Swim only stole half of Snow White candies and had Fav distribute them equally amongst all Magical Girls except Ruler, La Pucelle, and Snow White, ensuring Ruler's elimination. Afterward, Minael and Yunael celebrate the death of their abusive leader while Swim Swim comforts a mourning Tama. Swim Swim then takes Ruler's corpse and silently griefs for her mentor, but believes she had to kill her to become leader.
Chapter 3[]
The Magical Knight (魔法騎士)
A few days later, Nana is contacted by Cranberry, who requests a meeting with her and Winterprison. However, upon meeting up, Cranberry tells Nana to stop spoiling the "game" and attacks, prompting Winterprison fight the former. Although Cranberry easily breaks through Winterprison's magic, to "create walls", the latter turns the tide with help from Nana's magic, to "empower others". However, Cranberry uses her own magic, "Sonokinesis", to distract Winterprison by replicating Nana's voice, allowing her to land a devastating blow and prompting Winterprison to retreat with Nana. Afterward, Fav questions why Cranberry let them escape and she admits that she could have killed them but did not since they were her most exciting opponents in a while.

Following the battle with Cranberry, Nana agrees to Fav's request to mentor the new Magical Girl despite Winterprison’s concerns. Upon meeting the new magical girl, Hardgore Alice, Nana informs her of the death game tries to persuade her to join her side. However, Alice is seemingly disinterested until Nana tells her about the attack on Snow White. After asking whether Snow White is the "Magical Girl in white", which Nana confirms, Alice then runs off.
Meanwhile, La Pucelle hangs out with Snow White while blaming herself for being unable to protect Snow White from Ruler’s attack. After Snow White leaves, La Pucelle is confronted by Cranberry, who states she is not interested in candies and just wants to fight the strong Magical Girl. Believing Cranberry just wants a mock battle, La Pucelle accepts her challenge.
Later, in the weekly chat, Fav makes two announcements; 1. Magical Girls can may now buy Magical Items from him in exchange for their lifesplan—first come, first serve; 2. La Pucelle supposedly died in an accident—thus, no one will be eliminated this week. Watching the chat, Snow White griefs over the loss of her childhood friend.
Chapter 4[]
The Moonlit Magical Girl (月夜の魔法少女)
After Fav's announcement, Cranberry questions him about the magic items, which they acquired from their superiors by claiming they are meant to prevent more "incidents" like La Pucelle's. The Mascot assures her that this will make the fighting even more violent, which is exactly what they want.
With La Pucelle gone and herself likely to be attacked again due to having the most candies, Snow White considers using her lifespan to purchase an item for self-defense. She finally decides to purchase one only to find they are out-of-stock, having already been bought up by other Magical Girls.
At their hideout, Swim Swim’s group was able to secure three magic items: Swim Swim bought an Invisibility Cloak, Tama a a magical halbert, and Minael a flask of magical energy pills. However, Swim Swim switches items with Tama, having concluded the other's magic works better with them.

Mary and Magicaloid
Meanwhile, Mary reveals to another Magical Girl, Magicaloid 44, that she also purchased an item: the 4-Dimensional Bag, which can store anything. Magicaloid approached Mary with an alliance offer, wishing to gain the powerful Magical Girl's support to ensure her own safety. In response, Mary states she is willing to make Magicaloid her underling provided she passes a test: kill someone.
Back with Snow White, sensing someone's presence, she tries to flee before being confronted by Alice. However, before she can approach her, Alice is suddenly decapitated by Magicaloid 44 using a weapon materialized by her magic, to "produce a random magic item every day". Magicaloid is about to kill Snow White as well when she is impaled from behind by the still-decapitated Alice, killing her. Horrified by all the gore, Snow White faints.
The next day, Koyuki wakes up in bed, causing her to think yesterday was just dream. However, she then notices that she now possesses an item: the Lucky Rabbit's Foot, which can produce miracles in dire situations. She questions Fav about it and he reveals Alice purchased it for her.
During this week’s chat, Fav announces that the only magical girl cut was Magicaloid 44.
Chapter 5[]
Farewell to the Hindrance (邪魔者にさようなら)
Receiving a meet up request from Nana and Winterprison, Snow White attends but becomes disturbed upon seeing Alice, who also got invited. Having another meeting to attend, Nana and Winterprison depart, leaving the two alone. Snow White questions Alice about yesterday and the latter explains she survived decapitation with her magic, "regeneration". Wanting nothing to do with her, Snow White offers Alice the Lucky Rabbit's Foot back but the latter claims it is hers now and requests becoming partners. Too scared to refuse, Snow White accepts.
Meanwhile, Nana arrives at the hideout of Swim Swim's group with Winterprison, having arranged a meeting despite her partner's concerns. However, upon entering, another Nana jumps at them and stabs Winterprison with a dagger. When the second Nana turns into Yunael and the dagger into Minael, Winterprison realizes happened: the two used their magic, to "transforms into anything living" and "transform into anything non-living", to plant an ambush. While Minael and Yunael think they won, Winterprison pushes Nana to safety with her magic before lunging at Yunael and killing her. However, before she can kill Mineal, Swim Swim intervenes and cuts off Winterprison's right arm, causing her to die from blood loss. Afterward, as Minael and Tama grief for Yunael, Swim Swim believes Ruler would have led them better.
Elsewhere, Ripple and Top Speed watch a light show in a park to get their minds off everything when they receive a meeting request from Mary. However, Ripple turns it down. Unfortunately, this prompts Mary to attempt to draw Ripple out so she can kill her by opening fire on a nearby highway from her hotel room using guns empowered by her magic, to "magically enhance common weapons".
Chapter 6[]
Magical Cannon Girl (マジカルキャノンガール)
In response to Mary's act of terrorism, many Magical Girls head toward the highway. Snow White and Alice help people while Swim Swim’s group plots to take advantage of the situation to ambush other Magical Girls. The only one uninterested is Cranberry.
Ripple and Top Speed also arrive, and the former confronts Mary. The two fight fairly evenly until until Ripple steps on a landmine Mary placed beforehand. Though surviving the explosion, Ripple is stunned as Mary throws grenades at her. Fortunately, Top Speed gets her partner out of the blast zone with her magic, to "fly on her motor broom". While Top Speed intially argues they should flee, Ripple changes her mind by expresses a desire to protect people. Forming a plan, Ripple and Top Speed charge at Mary, using the broom's windshield as cover, only for the gunslingster to shoot and shatter it. However, it is revealed that Ripple used her magic, to "make projectiles always hit their target", on the windshield, causing the fragments to fly at Mary, impaling her, and she is finished off by a kunai to the head, killing her.
With Mary down, Ripple and Top Speed take a breather when the latter suddenly collapses, having been stabbed from behind by Swim Swim. Ripple tries to fight Swim Swim but is unable to harm her due to her magic, to "move through solid matter", resulting in the latter escaping. Ripple then goes to help Top Speed only to find her lying on the ground in human form, dead. Ripple's horror at the loss of her friend is only added upon when she notices she was three months pregnant, her unborn child having died with her.
Meanwhile, on the highway, Snow White and Alice search for survivors. Tama and Minael try ambushing them, only for Snow White to hear the former under the Invisibility Cloak with her magic while the latter is unable to substantially harm the regenerating Alice. Realizing their attack has failed, Minael seemingly retreats, with Tama following suit, after which Snow White and Alice continue helping people.
Elsewhere, at her apartment, Nana's human identity, Nana Habutae, mourns Winterprison. Realizing she deliberately put herself in danger in hopes of her partner rescuing as part of some "prince saves princess" fantasy, she falls into despair and hangs herself.
Next weekly chat, Fav announces the Magical Girls have been successfully cut to eight due to the many deaths. However, he then alleges that the use of the magical items has depleted the land's magic; thus, the number of Magical Girls will have to be further cut down to four.
Chapter 7[]
Cranberry's Secret (クラムベリーの秘密)

After the chat meeting, Cranberry converses with Fav about falsifying their rapport to the Magical Kingdom. Unbeknownst to the other N-City Magical Girls, they are just candidates taking part in a selection exam, of which Cranberry is the overseer: participants collect candies and the one with the most by the end becomes a full-fledged Magical Girl while the others have their memories erased. However, finding the normal test boring, Cranberry and Fav turned their exams into death games without the Magical Kingdom's knowledge. Cranberry's own selection exam went horribly wrong when a homunculus killed the overseer and other participants. The only survivor, she killed the creature in desperation, filling her with euphoria and starting her obsession with fighting.
Following the announcement about the remaining Magical Girls being cut to four, Snow White reaches her breaking point. Alice tries to cheer her up but Snow White responds by taking out her anger on the former and abandons her after forcefully returning the Lucky Rabbit's Foot.
The next day, Alice walks to school as her human identity, Ako, being ostracized by her classmates since her father is in prison for murdering her mother. She wonders what she can do for Snow White, having become a Magical Girl solely to repay her for finding her house key. However, on the way, she is approached by a girl in a raincoat whom she recognizes as Swim Swim. Unbeknownst to Ako, during the events at the highway, Minael transformed into Alice's rabbit plushy, which she took home with her, causing Swim Swim's group to learn her identity. Ako heads to a secluded area but is fatally stabbed by Swim Swim before she can transform. Nearing death, Ako hopes to at least see Snow White one last time, causing her rabbit’s foot to tremble.
Elsewhere, despite not being in Magical Girl form, Koyuki senses Ako's cry for help and promptly transforms to check it out. Arriving at Ako's location, she finds her bleeding out; Swim Swim has already left. In her thoughts, Ako encourages Snow White to continue being a Magical Girl and urges her to take the rabbit’s foot, causing the latter to realize her identity, before passing on.
Chapter 8[]
The Demonic Girl (魔王の娘)
After killing Alice, Swim Swim’s group move to their next target, Cranberry, who agrees to meet them on Mount Funaga despite knowing it is a trap. Using her enhanced hearing, Cranberry easily finds them lying in ambush and kills Minael. In response, Swim Swim fights Cranberry head-on but, since she can still perceive while using her magic, Cranberry deduces light and sound are effective against her and unleashes a huge blast with her sonokinesis, causing the former to fall unconscious and revert to human form. However, Cranberry stops from killing Swim Swim upon seeing her human form: a 7-year-old girl.
With Cranberry distracted, Tama ambushes her and puts a single scratch on her back. Before Cranberry can react, Tama then uses her magic, to "make holes appear in anything she scratches", to bisect her, killing her. As Swim Swim regains consciousness, Tama is glad to see her unharmed. However, realizing she is in human form, Swim Swim then transforms and decapitates Tama before the latter even realized what happened, having been taught by Ruler that "a Magical Girl's identity must remain secret".
Afterward, Fav appears before Swim Swim from Cranberry's Magical Phone and claims that, since she killed Tama and Tama killed Cranberry, she is now his new "master". Although agreeing to take him and Cranberry's Magical Phone with her, Swim Swim declines working together with him on the selection exam, believing Ruler would not work with anyone.
Later, with only three Magical Girls remaining, less than the required four, Fav announces that more information will be distributed to everyone individually later.
Chapter 9[]
Cosmos Flowers Become the Battlefield (コスモスは戦場に似合う)
Though not grieving for Cranberry, Fav begins missing her as he concludes Swim Swim is unfit to be his master. Born a defective Cyber Fairy, he and Cranberry teamed up to achieve their desires: death battles for Cranberry and entertainment for Fav.

Snow White meets Ripple
With the death game over now, Snow White feels relieved, but also wonders why she survived. She then receives a message from Ripple, requesting a meeting. However, upon meeting up, Ripple reveals that she intends to avenge Top Speed by killing Swim Swim and asks Snow White if she has any information on her. Although Snow White tries to talk her out of it, Fav appears and tells Ripple that Swim Swim's weaknesses are light and sound. After Ripple leaves, Snow White questions Fav about his motives. In response, Fav comes clean about the selection exam, revealing he intends for Swim Swim and Ripple to kill each other so he can make Snow White his new master. Having had enough, Snow White destroys her Magical Phone and chases after Ripple.
Elsewhere, Swim Swim receives a meeting request from Ripple and accepts, hoping to make the latter her subordinate. Arriving at the spot, she realizes she has fallen into a trap upon seeing Ripple charging at her. Quickly swallowing an energy pill, she catches Ripple off-guard with her increased speed, amputating her left arm and cutting her left eye. However, Ripple manages to throw a stun grenade from Mary's 4-Dimensional Bag, which she looted off her corpse, knocking Swim Swim out and reverting her to human form. Ripple then kills Swim Swim before seeming succumbing to her injuries.
Arriving at the scene, Snow White is devastated to find she is seemingly too late. Fav then appears from Cranberry's Magical Phone and congratulates her on passing the selection. However, Snow White can now hear Fav's thoughts with her magic, learning this is his master terminal and destroying it will kill him. Initially taunting Snow White as she unsuccessfully tries to destroy his terminal, Fav begins to panick when Ripple, who miraculously survived thanks to Alice's Lucky Rabbit's Foot, gets back up and brandishes Swim Swim's weapon. Fav tries to convince the two that he was following Cranberry’s orders, but they do not listen and Ripple destroys the terminal with the weapon, killing him.
Epilogue[]
Epilogue (エピローグ)
At a fast-food joint, Yoshiko and Sumire talk about how Koyuki will be back tomorrow; she ran away from home and went missing for two weeks. Sumire tries reading up on magical girl sightings but, with the Magical Girl Raising Project having shut down, all she finds news of a one-eyed, one-armed girl in black saving people and a girl in white helping revolutionaries in the Middle East.
Elsewhere, Snow White, rests on the tail of a jet. Following the Incident, the Magical Kingdom made her and Ripple honorary citizens, enabling her to travel to foreign lands to solve problems. She receives an email from the Magical Kingdom, telling her to keep to her own district, but she deletes it, thinking watching from the sidelines does nothing. She then gets a message from Ripple, informing her of memory altercations and deaths in certain selection exams. In response, Snow White prepares to head to the testing grounds, telling herself to act before she regrets not doing so.
Snow White Raising Project[]
Snow White Raising Project (スノーホワイト育成計画)
Some time following Cranberry’s exam, Magical Kingdom official Pythie Frederica goes over the incident's aftermath. Snow White and Ripple were both interviewed, during which the former turned down having her memories erased. Intrigued why Snow White would want to continue being a Magical Girl, Frederica volunteers to be her mentor.
Contacting Snow White via Magical Phone, Frederica introduces herself and asks if there is anything she can help her with, to which the Magical Girl responds by asking how she can get stronger. Realizing Snow White wishes to fight, Frederica claims Magical Girls do not need strength only to get hung up on. Now truly intrigued, Pythie sends a message asking why Snow White desires strength but does not get a sufficient answer. Afterward, Frederica begins spying on Snow White with her magic, to "watch people through her crystal ball as long as she is holding their hair", having retrieved a sample from Koyuki's room, and concludes that she can shape the rookie into her "Ideal Magical Girl".
Frederica once again contacts Snow White and asks if she wants to get stronger even at the expense of those close to her, causing her to hesitate. Pleased at her sense of morals, Frederica urges her to think on it. Later, Frederica confronts Ripple. Introducing herself as Snow White's new mentor, she tells Ripple about her protege's desire for strength, causing her to grow concerned, and requests she talk to her about it, believing she would be more open to a friend.
The next day, Frederica is contacted by an angry Snow White, who asks why she talked to Ripple. Although Frederica states to just want to know why she seeks strength, Snow White claims to not need her help before hanging up. However, when Snow White later requests Ripple to train her, the latter refuses, resulting in an argument. Having observed everything, Frederica contacts Ripple and changes her mind, arguing Snow White would otherwise train herself and get hurt. She then gets called by Snow White, who finally reveals her reason to become stronger: to stop Magical Girls like Cranberry. Satisfied with this answer, Frederica reveals she already convinced Ripple to train her, much to Snow White's joy.

Ripple trains Snow White
Thus, Ripple began training Snow While while Frederica secretly observes them. Although Snow White's progress is initially slow, she improves greatly over time after she stopped attending school at Frederica's advice. Concluding Snow White needs a weapon, Frederica contacts Ripple ragarding what happened to the Magic Items from Cranberry's exam. Ripple reveals she has them but refuses to let Snow White near such dangerous objects.
Concurrently, Frederica oversees a selection exam. Being secretly Cranberry's former co-conspirator, she has been trying to replicate her death games in hopes of producing another "Ideal Magical Girl" like Snow White. However, the experiment ended in failure, as all participants died.
Following a training session, Frederica confronts Ripple ragarding the latter refusing to let Snow White face real danger. When Ripple reveals she deduced Frederica is spying on them, the latter concludes her to be obstructing Snow White's progress and attacks. However, Frederica stops upon seeing Ripple has the Lucky Rabbit's Foot before being confronted by a furious Snow White, causing her to realize she has fallen for Ripple's trap. Her mind read and crimes exposed upon being faced by Snow White in-person, Frederica attempts to flee. However, being in perfect sync from their sparring sessions, Snow White and Ripple easily subdue her. Nontheless, as she falls unconscious following a final blow from Snow White, Frederica is satisfied with her protege's growth comes up with a nickname for her: the Magical-Girl Hunter.
