Prologue[]

Prologue (プロローグ)

Volume 2-LN-007

Daisy uses her magic

Magical Daisy, real name Kiku Yakumo, used to be a popular Magical Girl with her own anime. However, at present, she is just a sub-par college student living in a run-down apartment. Reflecting on her life, she begins to regret prioritizing her Magical Girl activities over her education when her Magical Phone receives an e-mail titled "Magical Girl Raising Project". Believing it to be a prank or spam, Kiku attempts to delete the message but it does not work. The e-mail's text then begins to shine as Kiku is engulfed in a flash of light.

Chapter 1[]

Hello, Daisy (ハローデイジー)
Chika Tatehara suffers from an inferiority complex, considering herself "average" and "unappealing". Because of this, she takes comfort in her beautiful Magical Girl self, Pechka. Wearing civilian clothes, Pechka musters the courage to give her school crush, Ninomiya, some sweats made using her magic, to "turn anything into food". Still, she is too insecure to face him, just handing over the sweats before running off. Once home, Chika is too embarrassed to even pick up her Magical Phone as it receives a message. Just then, she is suddenly transformed into Pechka and transported to a wasteland.

Volume 2-LN-025

The samurai interrogates Pechka

Opening her Magical Phone, it claims that Pechka is currently in the "Tutorial Mode" of "Magical Girl Raising Project" before being attacked by five skeletons. Having no combat experience whatsoever, she freezes as the monsters swarm her. However, the skeletons are then suddenly sliced in half by a Magical Girl in samurai armor. Pechka attempts thank her savior, only for the latter to grab her throat and ask whether she is the "musician". Although Pechka cannot answer due to being suffocated, Akane ultimately concludes she is not her target and lets her go before walking off.

Elsewhere, Daisy undergoes a same "tutorial", the combat veteran defeating the skeletons with ease. Afterward, her Magical Phone awards her five Magical Candies and instructs her to head toward a nearby town. However, she is attacked en route by the Samurai Magical Girl. Deducing the samurai's magic is to "cut anything regardless of distance", Daisy engages her in ranged combat with her own magic, a "laser beam". Eventually, she closes the distance only for the samurai to vanish after realizing Daisy is not the "musician". Afterward, Daisy returns to trying to find the town when she notices a person being attacked and charges in to help them.

Volume 2-LN-037

The arguing Magical Girls

Back with Pechka, she is having a mental breakdown at her situation when she overhears other people. Following the noise, she finds three other Magical Girls having an argument. Unsure whether they are friendly, she slowly backs away from them when her Magical Phone suddenly goes off, prompting her to flee as the three are alerted to her presence.

The person Daisy rescued is revealed to be a girl named Nokko, a ten-year-old veteran who has been a Magical Girl since she was four. Traveling to the town together, upon arriving, they encounter two more Magical Girls. The pair introduce themselves as Genopsyko Yumenoshima and @Meow-Meow and reveal that they encountered other Magical Girls in town, but they have already moved elsewhere. Just then, their all Magical Phones receive a new message reading "Support Commands Added". Confused, Daisy presses the newly added "Support" button.

At an unknown location, a video is being played of a battle between Snow White and a fire-themed magical girl, Flame Flamey. Flamey tries to attack Snow White with her "pyrokinesis" magic but the "Magical Girl Hunter" avoids everything before putting out the flames using a fire extinguisher and knocking her opponent unconscious. When the video ends, the Magical Girl watching gushes over how cool Snow White is, though she also claims that Magical Girls should not need to be strong; thus, Magical Girls who seek power or were chosen by deadly competitions are not needed.

Chapter 2[]

Good Food Makes Everyone Happy (美味しい料理でみんな幸せ)
After clicking the Support button, a Mascot appears from Genopsyko’s Magical Phone. Introducing himself as Fal, he explains the situation: Magical Girl Raising Project is a virtual training simulator for Magical Girls, and they have been selected as test players. While the girls are angry at being whisked away here without consent, Fal assures that time will barely pass in the real world and that the game is completely safe, as no damage will be relayed to their bodies. He also states that this is an official test from the Magical Kingdom and they will receive a monetary reward for their cooperation.

Meanwhile, despite her attempt to flee, Pechka was easily caught by the other Magical Girls, Clantail, Nonako Miyokata, and Rionetta. After having the game explained to them by Fal, although Pechka wants nothing to do with it, the others are willing to put up with it for the reward money. When Fal reveals they are allowed to form parties, the three reluctantly recruit Pechka as their fourth member. However, Pechka's lack of combat ability means she cannot fight and collect candies, which are required to purchase Items from the in-game shop, causing her inferiority complex to flare up again as her teammates consider her a liability. Fal then appears again and informs them that the next area has been unlocked by another party.

In the next area, the grasslands, the magical girls who opened it, Pfle, Shadow Gale, and Masked Wonder, enter the new land. Shadow Gale's civilian identity is Mamori Totoyama, a butler in service to Pfle, real name Kanoe Hitokouji, her having family having served the latter's for generations. As a result, the two have always been together. This remained true even when they became Magical Girls and even now they have been pulled into this game. Shortly after arriving, the two met Wonder and the devious Pfle tricked her into joining them by pretending to be injured.

Volume 2-LN-079

Team Daisy fighting

The newly formed Team Daisy moves into the grasslands and encounter a new type of monster, red skeletons, but fight them off with ease. Wanting to end it with her anime's iconic finishing move, Daisy fires her magic at them. However, the red skeleton reflects it back at her, blasting a hole through her stomach, killing her.

Elsewhere, Pechka's team also enters the new area. To stop Nokako and Rionetta's constant arguing, their leader, Clantail, decides to split the group: she and Rionetta will farm candies while Pechka and Nonako do recon. as they scout, Pechka and Nonako encounter Team Pfle. Fortunately, they do not come to blows and Pfle, to make a good first impression, warns them about the red skeletons' ability to repel projectiles before parting ways. The two then meet back up with Clantail and Rionetta, who were unable to gather candies due to another Magical Girl chasing them off. Before they can decide their next move, however, all Magical Girls are suddenly transported to the wasteland area for an event.

Volume 2-LN-099

Lazuline meets Wonder

As the magical girls filled the wasteland square, Pfle’s team watches the rest of the magical girls, taking note of the one in the hamster suit, a magical girl who was able to change in size and previously had to be fought by Masked Wonder in order to gain access to their hunting grounds. In that encounter, Masked Wonder also gained a friendship with a magical girl in blue, Lapis Lazuline. The two now say their catchphrases and shake hands whenever they run into each other.

Once all the magical girls arrive at the town square, Fal gives the announcement that today is the logout day and the magical girls will now spend three days in the real world. Fal also announces that there will usually be a special event on logout days, this time being a race to reach a message in the grasslands area. Pfle is able to easily win the race thanks to her wheelchair, and is awarded a Miracle Coin, which increases enemy drop rates. Pfle decides to give the Miracle Coin to Masked Wonder.

In a monitoring room, Fal is speaking to another magical girl about something that Fal was unaware about. Magical girls will be killed if they die in the virtual world. Fal attempts to sway the magical girl against doing this, but she is adamant that the Magical Kingdom is ignoring their children and that they must prove that they’re the real magical girls.

Chapter 3[]

The Detective and the Murder Case (探偵と殺人事件)
Following Magical Daisy’s falling out of the game, the magical girl Detec Bell, wanted to do some investigating now that she’s logged out of the game, making sure that the in-game damage didn't affect their bodies. After figuring out the area where Magical Daisy likely lived by looking at a background from the Magical Daisy anime, she then used her magic on the surrounding building to get a better understanding of where exactly Magical Daisy lived.

Elsewhere, Pechka went to once again give Ninomiya the lunch she prepared. However this time, her mind was very preoccupied with the game she currently found herself in. What she didn’t expect was for Ninomiya to later approach her, asking if she could make lunch for him again, but alone this time since his teammates ate all the lunch. Pechka accepted, and was glad at how happy she was able to make Ninomiya feel, which made her believe that cooking was a path that opened up for her.

For the first time in a while, Kanoe seemed to be heavily contemplating something. As Mamori listens as Kanoe talks about the game, the rewards, the participants, and the fact that they can’t contact the Magical Kingdom, the conclusion between the both of them is that the whole situation is ominous and doesn’t feel right. Three days later, Shadow Gale and Pfle were brought back to the game world. Though Masked Wonder didn't meet up with them. The two of them located Masked Wonder with their phone, but when they arrived where she was, they were met with a corpse whose head was crushed with a rock. Shadow Gale was overcome with nausea, but Pfle immediately went to check her magical phone, noting that her items and candy were taken.

In the new Mountain shop, Pechka’s party was able to gain upgraded equipment and a pot after using R multiple times. However, while Nonako was having a good time with the new goblin she was able to befriend, Rionetta was enraged at Cherna Mouse continuing to block hunting grounds, causing her to get into constant fights with Nonako. Pechka meanwhile, wanted to put the new pot to good use, using her magic to make good meals for the rest of her party. While the others were unsure about it at first, once Rionetta took a bite and enjoyed it, the others followed soon afterwards, making Pechka happy about her abilities once again.

With a little motivation from the million yen reward, Nokko’s party was making good progress in unlocking the next area thanks to Genopsyko being unable to be hurt even when having to dive in lava. The three of them were feeling happy despite Daisy’s passing, primarily due to the knowledge that Daisy should still be alive. Immediately after unlocking the next area, Fal appeared before them to tell of an emergency gathering to the wasteland town, causing a slight downer on their mood. Nokko wanted to try and think happy thoughts to help the two of her party members.

Once all the magical girls were at the wasteland town, Fal announces the difference in opinion between Fal and his master. The truth is that only basic damage will not be carried over. However, death in the virtual world would mean death in real life. Fal’s master also had a message that this game the girls are in is essentially a selection test in whether or not the girls here deserved to be magical girls. Of course, everyone reacted negatively to these new revelations, but Pfle remained calm, telling everyone that they had no choice but to continue with the game, as the person who put them in this situation clearly had way more power than they do. Pfle declares that the rest of them must work together, revealing that Masked Wonder was killed by someone, and asking for the culprit to reveal themselves. After getting no responses from anyone, Pfle then asks to check if the Miracle Coin is in anyone’s phone to confirm a culprit. While wary at first, almost everyone complies, leaving the samurai girl as the only one who didn’t cooperate. With Pfle not being able to get the phone from her, Genopsyko steps in, acting nonchalant with the samurai. The samurai then asks if Genopsyko is "The Musician", to which Genopsyko replies that she uses Vocaloids to make songs. The samurai girl responds by slashing Genopsyko's face with her sword.

A fight immediately breaks out, with combat oriented magical girls taking on the samurai while others went to hide. Nokko was among the magical girls that hid, but when the building she was sliced, the samurai girl began approaching her. Before Nokko could be sliced as well, @Meow-Meow jumped in, dropping boulders using her magic, and eventually killing the samurai by dropping a building. Now that the samurai was dead, Nokko went to check in Genopsyko, only to find that her body was missing, with only her magical phone remaining.

From the Master Side, Fal once again tries to get his master to reconsider this course of action, even offering to take the fall for her if she decides to turn themselves in. The master isn’t taking any of it in, continuing to harbor a hatred for the children, and saying that she will continue to be the right kind of magical girl with this method.

Chapter 4[]

Mysterious Candy (不可思議なキャンディー)
Soon after the fight, Pfle begins asking Fal about many of the game’s mechanics. With those answers, along with the new Item Encyclopedia, Pfle comes to the conclusion that the Miracle Coin is still out there and the person who killed Masked Wonder is still alive, meaning that the she and Shadow Gale can’t cooperate with the other parties just yet.

Following an inconclusive meeting among the party leaders, Detec Bell returns to her own party to hear that they had spotted Genopsyko Yumenoshima, who despite being slashed earlier now had her wound stitched up. She supposedly disappeared, so Cherna Mouse was chasing her. When she returned, Cherna seemed to somehow get a piece of paper that read “Watch out for the traitor” This message seemed to get Melville upset, stating that she doesn’t want to cooperate with any other party.

With Nokko and @Meow-Meow, the mood was dire, with Nokko being unable to transmit happy feelings. During a silent meal, @Meow-Meow suddenly brought up that she retired as a magical girl due to something bad that she didn’t remember, as well as feeling immense guilt for having to kill someone. Before she could continue, the two of them were approached by Pfle, who talks about Cherna Mouse continuing to claim territory and not letting others into Team Detec Bell’s hunting grounds. With @Meow-Meow upset at the conflict that’s still arising, Pfle requests their help to stop them.

In the newly unlocked City Area, Shadow Gale was hard at work collecting mechanical parts from the new robot enemies, using the materials to modify Pfle’s wheelchair with her magic. While doing this, Shadow Gale also wanted to tell Pfle that she believes that the killer could be @Meow-Meow. Due to her magic of storing items in talismans, allowing her a method to store items without the use of a magical phone. Pfle seems a little impressed with Shadow Gale’s deductions.

Once the preparations were complete, Pfle requests a nonlethal duel in order to prevent Cherna Mouse from monopolizing the hunting grounds. Despite Detec Bell’s wishes for everyone to cooperate, the duel was accepted, and was decided to take place in The Wasteland. As Detec Bell was wondering who would want to fight Cherna Mouse. @Meow-Meow placed her talisman down and a large mechanical crab appeared, controlled by Pfle. Cherna Mouse and the machine began to fight, with Cherna Mouse seemingly losing, But then Cherna began growing more and more massive, leading her to easily crush the machine, though Pfle was able to get away with an escape pod before she could be crushed as well.

Following the battle, Pfle was also able to unlock the new Subterranean Area, and Pechka’s Party was exploring through the new area, the team was continuing to feel welcomed due to her ability to cook good meals, but while she was feeling happy, it was soon time for the pre-logout transport to the wasteland town. Fal announces the logout event this time, which is that fifteen minutes from now, the player with the smallest amount of candy would die. Everyone begins getting upset at this announcement, but as always, Pfle remains calm, asking what would happen if multiple players have the lowest number of candy, to which Fal responds that the event would end with zero deaths. Following that revelation, everyone worked together to equal the amount of candy they all had. There were seemingly no errors, however when the time came, the one with the least amount of candies was Cherna Mouse, who died soon afterwards.

From the Master’s Side, Fal states that he’s had enough with this game, not wanting any more people to die. He tells his master that he has sent a message to the Magical Kingdom, reporting everything that has happened, though the master didn’t seem to mind all that much.

Chapter 5[]

The Big Dragon and the Chinese Girl (大きな竜と中華な少女)
When Cherna Mouse fell, it was revealed that she mysteriously was one candy short. Tensions were built up, as some began to suspect Pfle while others defended her, but in the end, the only conclusion that could be reached was that hunting would be a lot easier without someone blocking hunting grounds.

Now back in the real world, Chika felt too distressed to focus on school, only feeling an escape with her magical girl activities and spending time with Ninomiya. He begins conversing with Pechka, and wishes to know more about her. Unable to talk about what was truly happening, she opts for telling fictitious stories.

Kanoe was more obviously lost in thought than ever now. Mamori was feeling the same, trying to make sense of how Cherna Mouse could’ve possibly died. The two share what they know from each other, coming to the conclusion that it’s possible that the culprit between Masked Wonder’s murder and Cherna Mouse’s death are the same. Mamori brings up the possibility that the game master is the one behind all the deaths, to which Kanoe quickly refutes, saying that if the master is truly the culprit, then there’s nothing they can do. However, since there’s evidence proving the master wants to give ways out of their situation, there must be a culprit among them that should be caught. Mamori soon realizes that Kanoe is angry at the fact that the culprit killed Masked Wonder, and thus Mamori agrees to follow Kanoe’s strategy of having her observe character, while Mamori thinks about method.

After burying Cherna Mouse’s body, Melville announces that she's leaving the party, saying that she wants to look for the traitor, the person who killed Cherna Mouse, alone. When Melville disappears, Detec Bell asks for Lapis Lazuline’s phone, and moves to the address book, claiming it to be an accident, then checking the party formation to see that Melville had already left the party, and goes to remove Cherna Mouse from the party as well. Once her break from the game began, Shinobu Hioka now uses the information she got from Lazuline's phone's address book to try and figure out where she lived and her real identity, hoping to see what was behind her happy-go-lucky personality, and if she can trust her.

A few days later, everyone was once again in the game world, and soon afterwards, Pfle sends a message to everyone that she has discovered the area unlock quest for the Subterranean Area, but needs help to complete it. Everyone meets up in the subterranean town, and Pfle then leads the group to the pathway to the next area, which is blocked by the Great Dragon, a beast that incinerates anything that passes a red line. It seems like an unstoppable threat, but Pfle has a strategy in mind. With a water charm and a shield, they could survive an attack, and Pfle also got her hands on a small dagger called the Dragon-Killer, which does high damage to dragon-type monsters. With these two factors, Pfle begins planning a strategy involving attacking the dragon from two angles. With everyone in position, the attack was about to begin, but suddenly Genopsyko Yumenoshima arrived, with no scars. She ran over to give @Meow-Meow a hug, but the tackle resulted in the two of them tumbling over the red line, thus being attacked by the dragon. Before anyone could really react to this incident, Melville stirred the rest of the characters into action to fight against the dragon,

With the game master, Fal is no longer speaking to her, seemingly due to sending a request of help to the Magical Kingdom. The game master continues to act nonchalant about this situation, even saying that she expected it to happen. Suddenly, the door to her room was violently slammed open, and so the game master decides to welcome the newcomer, Snow White, to her world.
