Umbrain (アンブレン), also known by her real name Mitsu Kasayama (嵩山美津), is one of the main protagonists of Magical Girl Raising Project: JOKERS.

Umbrain is a member of the Department of Diplomacy in the Magical Kingdom. She is Lady Proud's second in command and most trusted personnel.

In JOKERS, she follows Lady Proud to S-City after the latter receives a mysterious text. She eventually goes missing and is revealed to have been abducted by Grim Heart, and later beheaded by Joker Shufflin.

Umbrain's human form is never revealed, though she has been said to be an elementary schooler by Asari Endou

Magical Girl

As a Magical Girl, Umbrain has dirty blonde hair that is tied into two low drill tails which are extremely curly. She has red eyes with long black pupils, and a fair complexion. She wears a yellow hat with white lace underneath that is tied to her head with a brown ribbon. On top of her hat are two purple flaps representing frog eyes, the insides being red with a black vertical bar representing the pupil. She also wears red frog-shaped earrings.

Umbrain wears a yellow crop top, the neckline falling off of her shoulders, and the sleeves are long with lace on the insides. Overtop, she wears a white bib with lace trimming and brown overalls, with the ends shaped like a frog’s foot. She also wears a pleated yellow skirt with lace underneath and large candy-shaped bows on either side. The bow on her left is white with blue stripes while the bow on her right is pink with white polka dots. She wears a red and purple frog-shaped backpack. She wears large purple rain-boots with bows on the back, which are black with red polka dots. The tops of her boots are red and are shaped like a frog’s head.

Umbrain carries a large umbrella that is black on the outside, with the inside looking like a blue sky. The handle of the umbrella is shaped like a large swirled candy, which is white and purple. Tied to the end is also a red bow with white stripes. Umbrain also carries two large lollipops, one being swirled pink and white and the other being swirled blue and white.

Personality

Given that she is a child, Umbrain is quite childish, complaining of boring work, loses focus often, and always wanting to play. She will, however, do whatever Lady Proud asks.

Magic

Uses a magic umbrella that can block anything.

She possesses a unique umbrella that can completely ignore the speed and the weight of anything that comes flying in by stopping it softly. Therefore, she can block any attack since she can catch the attack softly.

This magic can be used even when the umbrella is closed, as well as with the inside of the umbrella. It can also be used as a parachute or glider.

Etymology

Real Name

• The name Mitsu means "beautiful" (美) (mi) and "haven, port, harbor, ferry" (津) (tsu).
• Mitsu's surname Kasayama means "volume" (嵩) (kasa) and "mountain, hill" (山) (yama).

• When designing Umbrain, Marunio thought that the Other Child Magical Girls were too eccentric, so she put everything Children liked, such as Rain, Sweets, and frogs together and used that to design Umbrain.
