Pastel Mary (パステルメリー), also known by her real name Yoh Tanada (棚田曜), is one of the Main Protagonists of Magical Girl Raising Project: breakdown.
She is designed by Hebi Kujira (くじらへびさん).
Pastel Mary is a freelancer who is hired by John Shepherdspie, with her job being to send invitations to the Mages and serve the guests that arrive on The Island. She was also a temporary Selection examiner.
Appearance[]
Human[]
Yoh is described by John Shepherdspie as a young woman in her 20's. She was said to be wearing a white dress shirt with the cuffs torn, and bottoms that left her ankles showing. She has wavy brown hair that is tied up in the back, normally being semi-long that curls inwards at the ends. Her fingers are described as long with having evenly-cut nails, and a callus being on her index finger.
Magical Girl[]
As a Magical Girl, Pastel Mary has short white hair with cadet blue eyes. She has orange eyeshadow on her eyelids. Her hat is black with a red dot border and a fluffy white rim decorated with light orange dots. On the top of the hat is an "X" shaped fabric. It is all held together with a black band.
She wears a crisscross diamond patterned brown and white dress. Along the dress, orange bows decorated down to her waist. The bottom of her dress is identical to that of her hat. On her upper-right sleeve, there is a bandage tied around her lower shoulder. On the ends of both of her sleeves is a large fluff, and her choker is made of the same fluff.
On the left, side of her dress is a white and blue puff decoration sticking out from the dress. A bit lower down to the left there is a black puff. Towards the right side of her body, a string of green leaves from behind her resembles that of a tail.
Pastel Mary wears black leggings and has sandals similarly patterned to that of her dress.
Her appearance is that of a traditional tribal girl.
Personality[]
Mary is a shy and kind person and acts in a friendly and polite way with both her partners and her employer. She often makes sheep-like sounds when she feels scared, which tends to make her feel ashamed at times. She’s extremely clumsy, and often ends up tripping over her own feet.
Even though her clumsiness could be considered dangerous, she herself bears no ill intent.
Magic[]
Can materialize the sheep she draws with pastels.
She can summon sheep from pastel drawings to help her. There is no limit to how many sheep she can summon, however, despite being a product of her magic, Pastel Mary’s sheep often become too much for her to handle and she becomes unable to control them.

John Shepherdspie[]
John Shepherdspie is her employer.
When Pastel Mary was in her human form, he knew that she was still Pastel Mary, as he claims that her personality was still the same and she was always tripping over herself. She also still called him "Mr. Shepherdspie."
Despite being under brainwash at the time, Pastel Mary was horrified when she discovered his remains. After being convinced by Ragi, Pastel Mary helps bury her employer.
Dreamy☆Chelsea[]
The two of them are partners and work together to serve the guests in the building. She helped repair broken parts of the building that Dreamy☆Chelsea caused.
Dreamy☆Chelsea later falls in love with Pastel Mary under Love Me Ren-Ren's magic. Pastel Mary was consistently annoyed by Chelsea’s constant attention, wanting and trying to send her away so Mary could spend more time with Ren-Ren. Whenever Pastel Mary mentions Ren-Ren by name, it leads to Mary and Chelsea having an argument about it. Mary also receives 7753's Magical Goggles as a gift from Dreamy☆Chelsea, though she tries giving those away as well.
Love Me Ren-Ren[]
Pastel Mary, as well as her sheep, fall deeply in love with Love Me Ren-Ren after Mary is hit by one of her arrows. Mary constantly wants to be with Ren-Ren, and fantasizes about how she wants their relationship to grow. When Mary is asked to collect grayfruits off the island, she follows the order without any question. However, due to the instruction not being specific enough, Mary chose to steal all the grayfruit that the other mages had harvested.
Later on, after Dreamy☆Chelsea is brainwashed to fall in love with Pastel Mary, Mary is disappointed due to having to entertain Chelsea instead of being with Ren-Ren. Whenever Mary shows concern or even looks at Ren-Ren, Chelsea gets jealous, often leading to an argument or Chelsea trying to fight with Ren-Ren. Mary tries her best to hold her back, not wanting Chelsea to harm the person she is in love with.

Pastel Mary was the examiner of Jelly Marie and she approved her because she saw her potential in helping in maritime disasters. After Marie started to work for the Research department, she contacted her former examiner to assist her, even when Marie herself didn't consider Pastel Mary as someone reliable because of her clumsiness.

Pastel Mary, alongside Dreamy☆Chelsea, seek out Ragi in order to try and get him to sign a contract with Agri. When he tries walking away, the two of them follow him, leading to all three discovering the remains of John Shepherdspie.
While initially not listening to him at all, Ragi manages to get Pastel Mary to listen to him long enough to bury Shepherdspie and be convinced to tell Agri that they shouldn’t be trying to sell the grayfruit.

- Pastel Mary is the first character from the spin-off web novel, Magical Girl Raising Project: breakdown, to be featured in a short side story, Marie and Mary.
- In an In-character QnA at the end of Breakdown (Part 1), Pastel Mary reveals that she became a Magical Girl when she was in the ninth grade.
- According to the In-Character QnA at the end of Breakdown (Part 2), Pastel Mary has been a freelancer for around two or three years.
